We are thrilled to announce that Yesler has been named to Inc. magazine’s second annual Best Workplaces list.

When we started this company a little more than a decade ago, we wanted to create an environment where employees could work when they wanted, how they wanted, and from anywhere they wanted so that they could do excellent work for our clients on their own terms. Importantly, we wanted to reward them well for the results.

As we’ve grown, that spark of an idea has become much more structured—including professional development funds, health benefits, multiple physical offices to build out and maintain and kitchens to keep stocked, formalized trainings and travel grants and remote work options—but we still want to honor (and not get in the way of) the great work people do. And it drives our commitment to creating one of the best workplaces we can imagine.

That’s why we’re very proud that Yesler is among the short list of companies on Inc.’s Best Workplaces list. We’ve won several awards in our industry for the work we do and as a best place to work in our region. But for Inc.’s list, we were compared with more than 1,600 companies across the nation, in every kind of industry.

Inc. worked with employee engagement and culture experts Quantum Workplace to take a deep look at how well organizations are engaging their employees. The 2017 survey used a mix of scaled and open-ended items that centered on the emotional and behavioral connections employees have with their companies—the indicators of engagement. These factors in turn are associated with high employee retention and an ability to attract talent.

Inc. President and Editor-in-Chief Eric Schurenberg says that’s the focus because:

“The biggest challenge that any business owner faces is finding and keeping the best people. That’s why building a workplace culture that allows your staff to grow with your company is crucial. Recipients of the Inc. Best Workplaces awards have done so in spades. They should be celebrated and emulated.”

We couldn’t agree more, and it’s part of why we started Yesler in the first place—to be a part of something that could grow and change that we could grow along with.

So when we hire people to help grow our business (psst! we’re hiring), we firmly believe it’s our job to support them in their growth, too—inside and outside of work.
